PHOTOS: Valentine's Day Storm in San Diego was Record Setting

Rainfall records were set in more than a half a dozen communities in San Diego County.

In a report from the National Weather Service, meteorologists said more than 10 inches of rain fell on Palomar Mountain, the most rain ever recorded there. Elsewhere, more than 4 inches in Ramona, almost 4 inches in Campo; about 3 inches in Vista and Alpine. close to 3 inches in Borrego Springs and the 1.28 inches at Oceanside Harbor was the most ever recorded there over one 24 hour period.

The storm prompted a series ol flood warnings and there were dozens of reports of rescues or near rescues of drivers whose vehicles were caught in flood waters. One person died in Escondido after reportedly trying to cross a flood channel on a paddleboard and drowned.

Streets and highways were flooded in the city and in areas across the county, with the San Diego River in Mission Valley under a flood warning for about 24 hours. Mudslides were reported on several roadways in the county. Strong gusty winds during the storm brought down trees and large branches but there were no reports of injuries. .

Cal Fire says three firefighters escaped serious injuries when their fire engine crashed into a ditch in Bonsall Thursday morning The firefighters were taken a hospital to be evaluated for non-life threatening injuries. Video from the scene showed the Deer Springs Fire Department Engine 11 on its side in the ditch at N. Old Highway 395 and Camino Del Rey around 6:15 a.m

At least seven school districts in the county cancelled classes for Friday due to the lingering effects from the flooding and damage caused by the storm

A man and his pregnant wife escaped serious injury after a tree fell onto their Escondido home early Friday morning. It happened at around 3:00a.m. on Jesmond Drive, a day after the county was battered by heavy rain and wind.

The homeowner told reporting partner 10 News that he and his wife, who is eight months pregnant, were asleep in their bedroom when an oak tree in their yard came crashing down on their house. The tree hit a portion of a detached shed and landed on the home's roof. The impact caused the ceiling to cave in directly over the couple’s bedroom, with one branch pierced through the ceiling. The husband said he instantly shielded his wife as the ceiling and debris began coming down. The couple then rushed out to avoid being trapped or hit.
