Scores of Aftershocks Follow 6.4 July 4th in Southern California

People throughout Southern California including northern San Diego County reported feeling the shaking from a 6.4 earthquake centered in a remote area 100 miles from Los Angeles in Kern County.

No injuries have been reported but there has been some damage in the area closet to the epicenter including Ridgecrest where power outages were also experienced.

The fire department was on the scene assisting with some evacuations at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital.

The quake occurred at 10:33am close to Ridgecrest, California. Since the initial quake there have been a series of aftershocks. During a news conference at Caltech, Earthquake expert Lucy Jones said we can anticipate more in the coming days.

The July 4th quake is the largest to hit Southern California since the 6.6 Northridge quake in 1994 which resulted in deaths and damage as it was closer to populated areas.
