SAN DIEGO (KOGO) - SANDAG is announcing a new program to allow a certain group of San Diego County residents to ride public transit for free.
Starting May 1, county residents 18 and younger will be able to ride local buses, the San Diego Trolley, and the Coaster and Sprinter trains for free. In order to take advantage of the free rides a youth account is needed on the pronto app or with the pronto card.
Several community organizations will help to distribute the youth passes. SANDAG partnered with the county and local transit operators to make the free rides possible. The program is currently set to run through the end of June of 2023.
