New Colors Flying Above South Bay City

IMPERIAL BEACH - The Imperial Beach City Council voted unanimously last week to fly the Pride Flag under the U.S. and California flags every June from here on out.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the city council previously had to pass a resolution every year to fly the flag. The councilmembers have chosen to fly the Progress Pride flag, which is a newer version of the flag featuring the traditional rainbow colors alone with white, pink and blue chevrons to denote transgender persons and black and brown chevrons to denote people of color.

The decision to make flying the Pride flag during Pride month an annual tradition follows similar moves by the cities of Chula Vista and National City. About a quarter of all openly LGBTQ+ persons living in the South Bay reside in the City of Imperial Beach
