An Iconic Spot Opens Back Up

SAN DIEGO - The Ocean Beach Pier has fully reopened after more than a year of repairs.

Jason Peres works at the pier's café and bait shop and says he's excited about it.

"Brings back a lot more traffic," says Peres told NBC 7. "A lot more customers. So it's exciting to have more people on the pier."

The pier was packed over the weekend as people cast their lines in hopes of catching a few fish, and others took in the views and the sunset.

Repairs have cost the City of San Diego hundreds of thousands of dollars and the structure is already past its service life. The city is looking into building a new pier at a cost of about 65-million dollars.
