WASHINGTON, DC - California Governor Gavin Newsom makes a visit to the nation's capitol, continuing his criticisms of Republican policies.
The Governor was in DC Wednesday to accept an award from the Education Commission of the States for investing billions into the California's public education system. During his acceptance speech, the Governor said education is under attack.
"What's happening now, banning books, suppressing speech, the 'othering' of our students, teachers, parents - it's alarming" said Gov. Newsom.
Newsom again took aim at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican presidential candidate, for signing laws which ban or limit speech in schools on critical race theory, sexual orientation and gender identity. This after Newsom bought TV ad time in Florida over Independence Day weekend criticizing DeSantis and Republican policies.
The governor's visit to DC is furthering speculation of a potential presidential run.
Republican State Senator Brian Dahle, who is running against Newsom for the Governor's seat in this fall, says Newsom should stay home and take care of things in California like gas prices and inflation.
