Female Navy Pilot Makes History

SAN DIEGO - For the first time in history a female pilot will join the ranks of the Blue Angels.

Lt. Amanda Lee will be flying high as a part of the Navy's aerial demonstration team. Women from the Navy and Marine Corps have worked with the flight team for more than 50 years but never as pilots, until now. The team was formed in 1946 to generate public support and boost Navy morale by performing aerial maneuvers at various events.

Lt. Lee and five-other new core members will report to the Blue Angels in September and undergo five months of training at Naval Air Facility El Centro before the new show season begins.
