Second Hotel Bombing Suspect Learns Fate

SAN DIEGO - The second suspect in a hotel bombing here in San Diego has learned his fate.

Grover Preston Everett, 39, was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday for his role in the pipe bomb that went off at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Kearny Mesa. That's the same sentence ordered for Hans Jurgen Sarda, 30, who was sentenced in court last week.

Both men pleaded guilty to reckless or malicious possession of a destructive device. The District Attorney's office says the device was a steel-threaded pipe containing powder-actuated loads. On February 24th of this year, the bomb Everett and Sarda planted went off on the second floor of the hotel, causing minor damage to the property, but no injuries were reported.

Authorities have not released a motive in the case.
