POWAY - This week the Poway City Council unanimously approved the Safe Poway program, which will use security cameras to help monitor and deter crime.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the program is largely funded and managed by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department but the city will contribute about $35,000 and create promotional material to raise awareness of the program. The program will start with five cameras and business owners and residents will be able to share their own security camera video with the Sheriff's department as well.
The program is based off of a pilot project in the City of Lemon Grove. Santee is also implementing a similar security camera program.
