EL CAJON - The man accused of killing his wife in their East County homes is scheduled to be back in court again Thursday.
45-year-old Abdulhannan Al Wari was to be arraigned Wednesday but because his English skills are not up to par, the court appearance was rescheduled so an Arabic interpreter could be present. Family friend Rafid Albawai was at the court Wednesday and described the husband and wife as a very good couple.
“They have nine kids,” Albawai said. “You know, in our culture that — when you know the man and the woman, they love each other, they make a lot of kids. They love each other, and this is really a shock.”
Albawai said Al Wari was a pillar of the Syrian community, helping others get from the war-torn country to the U.S. But neighbors say they had heard arguments and screaming between the couple over the past several months.
The children, who range in age from 2 to 17, are currently living with another Syrian family.
