San Diego Mayor to Headline White House Panel

WASHINGTON, D.C. - San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria is at the White House today.

The mayor was invited by Pres. Biden to sit on a panel of mayors for the "United We Stand" summit. The panel is focused on efforts to end hate-fueled violence and extremism. The mayor says he's honored to be there and honored that the city of San Diego is being included in this summit.

"San Diego has led efforts to stop API hate, we’ve been national leaders on LGBTQ equality, we’re a welcoming city that is welcoming of immigrants, and we’re a national leader when it comes to gun violence prevention," Mayor Gloria said. "I think these are all aspects that we can share with the President and others at this summit and I hope that I can come back with some ideas that would make our community safer and more inclusive."

The mayors of Mesa, Ariz., Oklahoma City and Baton Rouge will be a part of the panel discussion, which will spotlight what cities and communities can do to prevent and respond to hate-motivated violence.

The bipartisan event will kick off just before noon today and will be streamed live on the White House YouTube channel.
