SAN DIEGO - Residents of Barrio Logan are dealing with a smell from a nearby industrial site and they say it's making them sick.
Residents along Newton Avenue say they've sent letters and called New Leaf Biofuel about the situation but haven't gotten a response. Maria Fernanda Corral tells reporting partner 10 News it's definitely affecting her health.
"Your throat is filled with chili powder," Corral said. "Then your eyes become watery. And then the headache."
The County has taken some action, sending a letter to New Leaf Biofuel informing the company that it is the source of the bad smell residents have complained about and that it has failed to address the situation. The company has also reportedly violated the California Health and Safety Code.
A hearing with County officials and the company is scheduled for later this month.
