SAN DIEGO - County Supervisor Chair Nathan Fletcher makes an announcement about the future of the Board of Supervisors.
In a recent video posted to YouTube, Supervisor Fletcher highlighted the agenda of the last two supervisors meetings and said the meetings would be his last as Chair.
“It has been a tremendous honor to chair this Board for the last two years," said Fletcher. "I look forward to turning the reins over to Vice Chair Nora Vargas, the first Latina in the hundreds of years of history of our County. She’s been an incredible Vice Chair; I believe she’ll make a great chair."
Fletcher, the husband of former State Assembly member Lorena Gonzalez, was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2018 and then elected chair in 2021. He was both praised and criticized for his leadership during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fletcher will maintain his seat representing District 4 on the Board of Supervisors through the end of his term in 2024. He plans to formally nominate Vice Chair Nora Vargas for Chair when the Supervisors meet again in January.
No word yet if Fletcher plans to run for a different office.
