Chula Vista Moves Forward with Filling Vacant Positions

CHULA VISTA - Two positions remain vacant after the November election, and Chula Vista leaders have settled on a plan to fill those seats.

City leaders will fill the District 3 Council seat by appointment after Steve Padilla was elected to the state senate. The application period will get underway December 23 and wrap up January 6, with the new council member seated in February.

But the City Attorney position will be decided by a Special Election, which won't take place until November of 2023. The candidate filing period for that election will be in July. This comes after the late Simon Silva won the election for City Attorney. He passed away in September but officials could not remove his name from the ballot.

The special election is expected to cost the city about two million dollars.
