SAN DIEGO - Former Buffalo Bills and San Diego State Aztecs Punter Matt Araiza is speaking out against the allegations made against him in a civil suit.
In court documents reviewed by the San Diego Union-Tribune, attorneys for Araiza attorneys say the accusations made by the young woman - who was under 18 at the time at the alleged rape at an off-campus house party - are false and that any contact between Araiza and the woman was consensual. The documents go on to say Araiza left the party long before the plaintiff and he has no knowledge of any incident that happened inside the home and that the statements made in the lawsuit are just part of an effort to harm his reputation.
The woman’s attorney, Dan Gilleon, told the paper that Araiza’s response is “a publicity stunt.”
Last month the San Diego County District Attorney's office decided not to press criminal charges, saying there was no path to a conviction.
