Activists Protest New Border Wall Height in Friendship Park

SAN DIEGO - Protestors rallied against the construction of a new border wall through Friendship Park.

The protest happened around 10:00 a.m. Monday behind the water plant off of Dairy Mart Road. The event was sponsored by Friends of Friendship Park, which has been lobbying the Border Patrol, Homeland Security and the Biden Administration to keep the historic meeting place open and available for families. Federal officials say the park will remain open and an access gate will be featured in the new wall.

But what activists are calling on now is for Pres. Joe Biden to make a choice and either be the president that finishes what protesters are calling President Trump's Border Wall or be the president that saves Friendship Park. The protestors don't want the 30 foot tall bollard style wall and are instead they are calling for a shorter height like that of the current steel fence in place.

Part of the current border wall system in California was actually funded under Pres. Obama when Biden was Vice President, but construction was mostly completed under Pres. Trump. Biden put a stop to new border wall construction when he became president, but his administration later allowed construction to continue in areas of safety, environmental and other concerns.
