SAN DIEGO - A viral video highlights the need to give Sea Lions at La Jolla Cove their space.
The video posted on TikTok last week already has more than two-million views a little girl is seen throwing something at least two times at a Sea Lion on the shore at La Jolla Cove and then San Diego Lifeguards got on the horn telling her she needed to leave the area.
“For me it’s nonsense," El Centro resident Edgar German told NBC 7. "Where are the parents? The parents should be like, 'Hey, you don’t know the animal. You don’t know how they’re going to react.”
Harassing sea lions is a violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and could result in an $11,000 fine or even jail time. The City of San Diego has an ordinance barring public access to parts of La Jolla Cove during Sea Lion pupping season from May 1st through October 31st.
