Wrongful Death Claim filed in Spring Valley Girl Abuse, Torture Case

SAN DIEGO - The County of San Diego is now facing a wrongful death claim after a Spring Valley girl was tortured and abused.

Torriana Florey filed a $10 Millionr tort claim against the county saying Child Welfare Services didn't do enough to protect her daughter 11-year-old Arabella McCormick, who died last August.

"She was the most open, loving, affectionate little girl,” Florey told NBC 7. “And then she got with the McCormacks and it’s like her soul died.”

Prosecutors say Arabella was severely malnourished, weighing less than 50 pounds at the time of her death. Her body was covered in bruises and doctors found 15 still-healing bone fractures. Arabella's adoptive mother and grandparents are awaiting trial in connection with her death.

Florey says county officials ignored reports of abuse made by school administrators. She's trying to regain custody of her two younger daughters, who were also abused by the McCormacks.
