Protest Highlights Border Wall Concerns ahead of Biden Visit

SAN YSIDRO - Ahead of President Biden's visit to San Diego, a protest was held at the border.

The Friends of Friendship Park gathered Sunday, again calling attention to the planned construction of 30 foot bollard style walls to replace an unstable section of existing wall. The current height of the wall is 18 feet and activists are asking Biden to scrap plans for the taller wall. The group wants Biden to know what this park means to families separated by the border.

“The purpose of today’s action was to remind President Biden on the eve of his arrival to San Diego that Friendship Park should not be disfigured having two 30-foot border walls built upon it,” Pedro Rios, Director of American Friends Service Committee told reporting partner 10 News.

Activists also claim the new wall will greatly reduce visibility for families gathering at Friendship Park, affecting future reunifications.
