Gov. Newsom Announces Insulin Deal for California Residents

DOWNEY - The state strikes a big deal to bring big savings to residents who rely on insulin to manage their diabetes.

During a visit to the Los Angeles area, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a multi-million dollar partnership with drug maker Civica to provide insulin to patients who live in the state. Newsom says the cost will be $30 for ten milliliters. He adds that's as little as one-tenth of the current cost. Manufacturing will start this year with delivery in early 2024.

State Republicans say the governor needs to look at overall health care, adding that the focus should be on saving the state's hospital system, and blaming "years of underfunded Medi-Cal reimbursements." The state GOP says that has resulted in hospitals throughout the state not being able to pay their bills, putting them on the brink of collapse.
