Just hours after an officer involved shooting in Spring Valley, body cam footage has been released.
San Diego Police published body cam footage to the department's YouTube channel within hours of Thursday's incident. Footage is typically released within the following days or weeks of an incident.
A car was stolen around 12:40 p.m. Thursday in front of the YMCA on Euclid and Imperial Avenues. Roughly an hour later, San Diego Police spotted the stolen car and started to pursue the suspect.
The chase ended when the driver crashed into a poll, got out of the car, and officers spotted what looked like a hand gun on the pavement.
The deputy ordered the suspect to lay on the ground, but instead of following orders, officers say the video shows the suspect shuffling toward the gun, and that's when officers opened fire.
Te man is at the hospital undergoing surgery. One officer was injured when the poll the suspect hit fell on their patrol car. The officer is expected to be OK.
