Stolen Trailer Leads To Standoff, Shutting Down I-15 Lanes

A police pursuit on I-15 Tuesday morning resulted in a standoff and part of the interstate closed for several hours.

Around 8:30 a.m. officers responded to a report that a woman was attempting to steal a trailer. She then left the area with the trailer attached to her SUV according to police. When officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, the woman led police on a pursuit onto Interstate 15 northbound.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the vehicle and trailer became disabled near Pomerado Road. The woman refused to surrender. According to reporting partner 10 News, around 9:20 a.m., the driver — with a part of the trailer still attached to her SUV — took the Miramar Way exit and then proceeded south on the northbound state Route 163 lanes.

After exiting onto surface streets in Miramar, the driver eventually drove the wrong way onto southbound I-15.

While the SUV was heading north on the southbound lanes, the driver crashed into at least two other cars on southbound I-15 near the exit to Mira Mesa Boulevard. She then got out of the SUV and tried to enter other vehicles that were stopped on the freeway.

She was arrested a short time later.

The impacted lanes on the 15 were all open around 10:30.
