Play Ball! It's Opening Day For The Padres

It's opening day for the San Diego Padres as they take on the Detroit Tigers.

Family members of team Hall of Famer and Cy Young award winner Randy Jones, who passed away last November, are throwing out the first pitch at 1:10 this afternoon. The Padres are wearing a number 35 patch in his honor this season.

The pre game ceremonies include a giant U.S. flag in the shape of America and a flyover from marine helicopters. Then, right-hander Nick Pivetta will get the opening day start for San Diego.

The Padres will host the Tigers Friday and Saturday, before the Giants come to town next week.

Transit officials are offering special coaster service from the North County and extra trolleys on game days, with all three trolly lines stopping at 12th and Imperial, next to the ballpark.
