A newly released CHP report says the BMW driven by a 16-year old was going 125 miles-per-hour as it approached the intersection of Clairemont Mesa and Dolvia Drive when it struck a police car, killing one officer and injuring another.
That crash killed officer Austin Machitar and the BMW driver, Edgar Oviedo. Officer Zachary Martinez was behind the wheel of the patrol car and survived his injuries.
The 344-page report broke down road conditions, communications and actions of the drivers and the crash itself. It says the BMW struck the cruiser, which burst into flames. The CHP report shows neither of the officers was wearing a seat belt.
