Honor Flight Takes 100 San Diego Veterans To D.C.

Nearly 100 veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War will be on board an Honor Flight Friday leaving from San Diego International Airport.

This will be an all-expense paid trip to visit memorials honoring their service. The veterans will also receive about 120 handwritten letters each, expressing gratitude from people around the world.

This "Mail Call" is a tradition dating back to WWI as a morale boost for troops.

Honor Flight departs for Washington, D.C. this Friday and return Sunday for the grand homecoming in San Diego. The agency says since 2010 they have offered two Honor Flights per year to over two-thousand veterans.
