Pilot Saw Drone, Did Not Strike It

San Diego International Airport says an airline pilot approaching for landing saw a drone, but did not strike it.

The pilot of a United Airlines plane reported seeing a drone around one-thousand-feet below the aircraft as it came in for a landing around 8:30 a.m. The airline initially sent out a statement saying there was a “possible drone strike.”

A revised statement released about five hours later deleted the word “strike.” The confusion apparently stems from radio communication between the pilot and ground control.

The pilot reported the drone as small, red and shiny. Federal agencies say it is highly likely they will be able to track down the operator of the done.
