Muslim leaders are calling for federal action one week after a deadly attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego killed three people.
During the annual Islamic Circle of North America conference in Baltimore, speakers urged the White House to issue a formal statement condemning the attack and asked the FBI and Justice Department to pursue a full federal hate crimes investigation.
The FBI has said that it is treating the attack like a hate crime until proven otherwise.
Leaders with Council on American-Islamic Relations also called for expanded security funding for mosques and other houses of worship.
