This is where Hollywood goes so wrong for me. Taking a real life, one filled with danger, action, adventure and Nazis, and removing the real person from it. There never was a Charlotte Gray.
Her real name was Nancy Wake. An author named Sebastian Faulk fictionalized her in his book Charlotte Gray, and rather than go back to the source for the Nazi-baiting adventures of the real-live Nancy Wake, they stayed with the fiction.
Nancy Wake was an amazing woman, who's life didn't need to be fictionalized. At all. Hollywood couldn't make her anymore interesting than she already was. So why do it?
She was one tough hombre. She killed Nazi's in hand-to-hand combat. Probably in pumps and lipstick.
She organized ratty resistance fighters in France.
Her beloved husband was murdered by the Nazi's who were hunting her.
She saved hundreds of lives.
I am looking for her book, The White Mouse, on Amazon for weekend beach reading.
I figure the reality is way more interesting than the fiction.
