Navy Vet Charged With Abusing Neighbors' Dogs

David Herbert Oceanside Dog Abuser Charges

A Navy veteran who lives in Oceanside has been arrested on charges of severely abusing dogs in his neighborhood.  Police say 36-year old David Herbert, who was honorably discharged due to a disability after 6 years in the navy, was arrested Wednesday morning at his home after an investigation.

Tom Bussey with the Oceanside Police Department told KOGO News the attacks on the dogs date back to April of this year when a family living on Carino way reported that their two huskies had acid poured on them inside their home, and one dog had had an eye gouged out.

That family immediately moved out, but the next family that moved in had their two dogs go missing, and one was never found.

Bussey says that at the time of the arrest, there was no motive but says it is hard to believe someone would do this to the dogs of two separate families. If convicted Herbert could be sentenced to as much as 16 years in prison.
