Maggot Infestation on San Diego Beaches

A maggot infestation on some North County beaches has some people grossed out.

The warm water is contributing to the breakdown of kelp along the shoreline which brings flies, and in turn maggots, that Seagulls can't eat quick enough.

Lifeguards say since it's grunion season, there are restrictions on raking the kelp so the build-up of the seaweed is more than normal right now, creating a banquet of the squirmy creatures.

If you're headed to beaches in Carlsbad, Solana Beach, Leucadia, watch where you step.
