Marine Arrested for Gaslamp Restaurant Arson

A 21-year-old Marine corporal is in jail after setting fire to a Gaslamp restaurant early Wednesday morning. San Diego Police arrested Austin Kokin after he broke into Blue Point Coastal Cuisine and set several small fires.

Mónica Muñoz with San Diego Fire-Rescue tells KOGO News that it happened just before 2:00a.m. when Kokin was banging on the windows of the restaurant as it was closed. He then found a way to get into the back of the building, and began breaking things before setting a few small fires.

When crews got there, the fire had been put out by the restaurant's sprinklers. There were no injuries to anyone in the building. Damage is estimated at $25,000.

Kokin is facing charges of burglary, arson, vandalism and carrying a concealed knife.
