Two MCAS Miramar Marines are under investigation for a video that appears to show them in blackface. The video was originally posted on Snapchat, and then Twitter, where it was viewed and shared thousands of times.
In the video, the Marines, one who has been identified as Zach Highfield, are in uniform wearing black face masks and one is heard saying what sounds like the word "blackface," as well as a racial slur. When questioned by reporters, Highfield said the two were wearing charcoal masks used to clean pores and they didn't mean to offend anyone.
The Marines are with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at MCAS Miramar. Officials at the base say an investigation has been initiated to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the video.
