The San Diego Humane Society, San Diego County Animal Services and several animal welfare partners were conducting a mass rescue at an animal sanctuary in Julian Friday.
Humane law enforcement officers joined by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, served a search warrant this morning at the location.
A statement from the SD Humane Society said:
Alongside our partners, our Humane Officers, medical, animal care and Emergency Response Teams immediately got to work to help these animals. While we do not have an exact count yet, we are expecting to rescue a large number of animals from the property. This includes more than 100 cats, 30 dogs, as well as donkeys, alpacas, geese, chickens and roosters, turkeys and goats. We also expect there to be at least 150 horses and a few ponies needing assistance on site.
Due to the scope of the situation, SDHS is leading the investigation, in collaboration with County Animal Services. Partners from Pasadena Humane Society, LA County Animal Care & Control and Marin Humane are also assisting.
