Last week’s deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego has not unexpectedly renewed calls for ways to make houses of worship as well as schools, stores, offices and other places safer. It happens every time one of these terrifying shootings happens.
Calls for tougher gun laws, calls for more mental health treatment, calls for stronger security at places where people are
And every time, everyone is quick to want a reason for what the shooters did, the why behind it.
There often is no clear answer, despite manifestos and posts on social media, what makes someone do it, what makes them do it.
We all know evil exists in the world and always has.But why has there have been so many shootings and why so much hate.
The Islamic Center’s imam said the mosque was accustomed to receiving hate mail, hateful messages online and hearing passing drivers scream and curse at community members.
His comments about hate should make us all uncomfortable and make us even more concerned and committed about what to about it.
