The California secretary of state confirmed on Wednesday that 1,719,900 verified signatures had been received, which is the required threshold to initiate a recall election. While a sufficient number of verified recall signatures had been reached in April, voters were given the 30-day window of April 26 - June 8, 2021 to withdrawal their signatures from the recall petition - the state received a total of 43 withdrawals.
The next step in the recall process will be for the DOGF to estimate the cost of the gubernatorial recall as both a special election and if it's held as part of the state's next regularly scheduled election.
If Gavin Newsom is not recalled, he will be up for reelection in 2022.
