Tribe Asking For Construction Stop

The San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians is asking for a halt to construction after possible ancestral remains were uncovered.

The discovery happened last October and again last month after crews began developing a housing project in Poway, about 23 miles north of downtown San Diego. Federal law allows the tribe to call for a full stop-work order to allow tribal leaders to investigate and determine how to respectfully handle any remains.

The site is to become the home of the Hidden Valley Ranch project with 40 homes to be built by Shea Homes.

The city says they are now working with the California attorney general’s office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
