Thousands of California truck drivers are at risk of losing their commercial licenses under a federal order.
As many as 61-thousand drivers could be affected in the coming years, representing up to ten-percent of the state’s license holders, with about 13-thousand already losing their licenses.
According to CalMatters, many of those impacted are asylum seekers or DACA recipients who are legally allowed to work in the U.S., and lawsuits aimed at restoring licenses have so far failed.
Industry experts warn the loss of drivers could disrupt supply chains and drive up shipping costs across the state as the legal battle continues.
