Great white sharks have left San Diego Waters, for now.
Researchers say the juvenile great white nursery between Del Mar and Torrey Pines went quiet about a year ago, and tracking shows no sharks there so far this year.
That likely means fewer great white sightings for local swimmers and surfers this summer. Although Chris Lowe, with Cal State's Long Beach Shark Lab says Orange and L.A. counties could see more activity as the sharks hunt for food.
Looking ahead, there is a 25 percent chance of a very strong El Nino later this year, and warmer water could push other species like hammerhead, Bull or Tiger sharks North, toward San Diego. That's something researchers say they will continue to monitor as conditions change.
