San Diego County is the fifth most expensive place to own a home according to a report from the University of San Diego's real estate school.
According to the index renters who make a little over 81-thousand dollars a year, which is the median household income in San Diego County, would spend nearly 87 percent of their take home pay on a mortgage, taxes and other expenses if they bought a home in San Diego.
The most expensive place to own is in Los Angeles. That's followed by San Jose, San Francisco and New York. The median home price in San Diego County ranges from $875-thousand to $915-thousand dollars.
