Security Remains Tight, Day After Deadly Mosque Shooting

Increased patrols around mosques and other houses of worship will remain in place across San Dioego County Tuesday following a deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego that left five people dead, including the two suspected gunmen.

San Diego police said the shooting occurred Monday morning in the Clairemont area while a school operating at the mosque was in session. Authorities said two gunmen, believed to be ages 17 and 19, opened fire before dying from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. A security guard at the center was one of the three victims killed.

More than a million and a half dollars has been raised for the family of Amin Abdulliah, who was described as heroic by San Diego Police.

Abdullah, a father of eight, was shot and killed while shielding children and staff during the mass shooting.

The younger of the two teenage suspects had been reported as a runway, just two hours before the attack.

Paul Cappitelli, who led training standards in California, told San Diego's Morning News that quick teamwork and communications were key in defusing the situation. He said the quick response by local police likely helped limit the damage.
