Who would have thought there would be boos at a Padre game at Petco Park less than two months into the season, especially this season.
Before the season, the San Diego Padres were picked by many baseball experts to be a team that would make it to the World Series.
After all the Padres went out and added some of the best players in baseball over the last 12 months and a guy who’s been described as possibly THE best player in baseball in Fernando Tatis Jr back in the lineup after his 80-game suspension for using a banned performance enhancing drug.
Padre fans have been filling up Petco Park, with lots of sellouts already this season, and on a record pace for an all-time best attendance.
And that’s why there were boos from the fans at Wednesday’s game as the Padres lost two of the three games they played this week against a team that has one of the worst records in baseball.
And that’s why the Padre players, who have lost nine of their last 11 games and have fallen to 4th place, had a team meeting after yesterday’s game.
Anyone who knows baseball, knows it’s a game that has ebbs and flows, but for the Padres, so far this season, it’s been mostly ebbs.
With more than two-thirds of the season still to be played, fans know there’s a lot of time for the Padres to become the team that almost everyone thought they would be. And through the decades, Padre fans certainly have had to be patient before.
But maybe the sounds of those boos at Petco Park will ignite a team that knows it’s better and is.
