FRIDAY –
The PADRES are right behind the Dodgers in the standings. They take on the Athletics at Petco Park all weekend long.
If you want to get your dance on, the BOOGIE DOWN BAND is playing Humphrey’s Backstage Music Club in SHELTER ISLAND.
For classical music fans, the SAN DIEGO SYMPHONY is performing at Jacob’s Music Center all weekend long.
An Elvis impersonator and old school band, BLUE SUEDE CREW, is at the Bornemann Theatre in SAN MARCOS.
There’s a Prince impersonator you can go crazy with at the Thornton Winery in TEMECULA.
SATURDAY –
SAN DIEGO FC will take on a tough team, the Vancouver Whitecaps. Our goal keeper, CJ Dos Santos, was just named to the World Cup team for Cape Verdewhich is exciting news. If you can’t make it to Snapdragon Stadium to watch him and the rest of the guys, you can listen at 6 p.m. on San Diego Sports 760.
AUSTRALIA’S THUNDER DOWN UNDER isn’t a soccer or rugby team, they’re male strippers, and they’re performing at Sycuan Casino in El Cajon. I just hate the idea of men being exploited as pieces of meat. We’re intelligent people that want to be known for our intellect and caring things we have to say, not because we’re beef cakes, but I digress.
If love is your drug…KESHA and CHROMEO are at the amphitheatre in CHULA VISTA.
I still can’t forgive RICHARD MARX for ending his 25-year marriage to dancer/actress Cynthia Rhodes (Dirty Dancing, Flashdance). But he had lots of easy listening hits so the Thornton Winery in TEMECULA is the perfect venue for him.
THE AFGHAN WHIGS are at the Observatory in NORTH PARK.
Here comes the cowboy…indie rocker MAC DeMARCO is at Humphrey’s in SHELTER ISLAND.
San Diego’s best pianist, JOSHUA WHITE will play George and Ira Gershwin tunes at Dizzy’s in SAN DIEGO.
For tribute bands, you can catch Gloria Estefan in El Cajon, and the Grateful Dead in Solana Beach,
SUNDAY –
A perfect way to end your weekend – the 15th ANNUAL VISTA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL. This is fun for the whole family – a beer garden, live entertainment, and food, that’s not just strawberries.
ON STREAMING ….
Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) stars as a single mom being blackmailed by her client on MAXIMUM PLEASURE GUARANTEED on AppleTV.
The Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) have a star-studded cast (Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Alfred Molina, and Alfre Woodard) in their new mystery series, THE BOROUGHS, on Netflix.
Nicolas Cage voiced Spider-Man Noir in the amazing 2018 animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse. Now he’s playing a version of him as a private eye who is also the masked vigilante, The Spider, in SPIDER-NOIR on Amazon Prime Video starting Monday.
AT THE MOVIES…
PASSENGER
They didn’t screen this movie for the critics, so all I can tell you is the premise. A young couple witnesses an accident on the highway, which leads to a demonic presence called “the passenger” that haunts them. So, this one is for the horror fans. Now, for the Star Wars geeks…
THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU
Another movie they didn’t screen for us. It has the evil Empire fallen, with imperial warlords scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic tries protecting everything the Rebellion fought for, they enlist the help of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, and young apprentice Grogu. Just typing all that made my eyes glaze over, but if the Star Wars universe is in your wheelhouse, this is the weekend for you.
