Don't Let a Little Rain Get You Down; Here's Some Fun Tips for Your Weekend

FRIDAY –

The SAN DIEGO PADRES are home at Petco Park against the Colorado Rockies. Both teams are 6 - 6 in the NL West. They’ll be playing all weekend long.

Fun for the whole family with DISNEY ON ICE: ROAD TRIP ADVENTURES at Pechanga Arena.

If you like fancy piano playin’ by the classical artists, the SAN DIEGO SYMPHONY will be performing RACHMANINOFF at the Jacobs Music Center DOWNTOWN. There’s a performance on Saturday, too.

For tribute bands, you can see Van Halen in SOLANA BEACH, and Neil Diamond & Linda Ronstadt in SAN MARCOS.

SATURDAY –

If you want to watch live soccer, the SAN DIEGO FC has a home game at Snapdragon Stadium, and of course, you can listen on San Diego Sports 760 starting at 7pm

If you want some exercise, and to help a good cause, the SAN DIEGO RACE FOR AUTISM SUPERHERO 5K FAMILY FUN WALK is happening in BALBOA PARK.

A local guy I saw 20 years ago that blew me away – RIP CARSON – will be doing his rockabilly thing at Grand Ole BBQ Flinn Springs in EL CAJON. And this show is free.

The MEMPHIS SOUL REVUE OF SAN DIEGO will be funkin’ things up at Winston’s Beach Club in OCEAN BEACH.

You can hear the lovely, local voice of WHITNEY SHAY at the UNIVERSITY CLUB atop Symphony Towers DOWNTOWN.

If you want to meet arguably the best American soccer player ever, LANDON DONOVAN will be at the CORONADO School of the Arts. He’ll be speaking, and signing his new memoir.

The Padres are playing again, but so are the SAN DIEGO MOJO vs Orlando, and there’s a T-shirt giveaway for fans who head to Viejas Arena.

If you’re wondering who it can be now, playing at the Balboa Theatre DOWNTOWN, it’s former Men at Work singer COLIN HAY (his solo stuff is terrific), along with KT Tunstall. Warning though – after KT performs, you’ll have “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” stuck in your head for days.

SUNDAY –

The PADRES wrap up their series with Colorado, and hopefully that puts them in second place in the division and knocks the Rockies into 4th.

Comedian and podcaster ADAM CAROLLA will be taping two live shows at the Belly Up Tavern in SOLANA BEACH.

ON STREAMING…

The sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, THE TESTAMENTS, starring One Battle After Another’s Chase Infiniti as June’s daughter, Hannah, debuts on Hulu.

The fifth and final season of the Emmy award winning comedy HACKS premieres on HBO Max.

Billy Magnuson, who was so fun in Game Night, stars as a tech CEO in the new series THE AUDACITY on AMC.

Zendaya and the high schoolers of EUPHORIA are all grown up as the show returns with its third and final season on HBO. If you want to see Zendaya on the big screen (with Robert Pattinson), THE DRAMA is at theaters now (I’m going to the Angelika Film Center tonight to catch it).

Other films at the MOVIE THEATERS…

YOU, ME, & TUSCANY

I’m a sucker for trailers. Any movie trailer comes on the screen or TV and I think – that looks good. I know, they take the best parts to show you, but I get suckered in. This movie is so bad that, when my wife and I saw the trailer we both said, “Well, that looks horrible.” We were right. I’ll start with the thing that almost worked about the movie. Aziza Scott as the best friend, trying to give Halle Bailey some tough love, and with a few cute lines. Everything else about this was horrible, starting with Bailey. I liked her in “The Little Mermaid” but hated her here. She’s not a pleasant woman to look at, and her character’s personality made it worse. How are we supposed to feel sorry for a protagonist that gets fired from her job as a housesitter, for wearing the owner’s clothes (including lingerie), and being horrible at her job? Then she uses her friend for free hotel rooms and food, and when a meet/cute happens at said hotel, she breaks into that guy’s house in Tuscany (when had she just called him and said she was in a jam, because all the hotels were booked, he would’ve gladly let her stay in his villa). When she meets the other love interest (Rege-Jean Page, who was rumored to be the next James Bond), why in the world would we root for this relationship? And with him being so suave, charming, and good looking – on top of owning a successful vineyard…would he have anything to do with her? Especially since she was snotty at the restaurant they first met at. This movie was so bad, my wife and I left after about an hour. We should’ve left earlier, but I wanted to give it a fair shake. And that being said, it’s only fair that I tell you – the screening audience watching with us seemed to love it. They were laughing and having fun, so…if you saw the trailers and thought it looked good – you should probably go to see it. This movie is going to be on my ‘worst of the year’ list. Perhaps had I been at a winery and gotten sloshed before seeing it, I would’ve liked it more. 0 stars.
