Reform California’s “Plain English” voter guide aims to clear up the confusion on ballot measures and candidates. Using the guide will make voting simple and help elect reform-minded candidates who will fight to improve cost of living, reduce crime, improve schools, and more.
The 2022 California Primary Election will be held June 7, 2022 — and this year’s primary ballot is really long! With several confusing ballot measures and hundreds of candidates running for office, voters can feel overwhelmed and lost.
Carl DeMaio, chairman of Reform California, says that to help clear up the confusion, he and his team have officially released their annual voter guide.
“Every election cycle we get people asking us who to vote for — especially with local races like judges,” said DeMaio. “That’s why we’ve come up with this comprehensive guide to help,” he continued.
Carl DeMaio and Reform California have thoroughly researched and vetted measures and candidates – and produced this easy-to-understand “Plain English” voter guide. The guide includes recommendations for judges and other officially non-partisan offices.
In vetting and endorsing candidates, Carl DeMaio and Reform California use the following criteria:
- COST OF LIVING: Opposition to tax hikes;
- CRIME: support for public safety and law enforcement;
- SCHOOLS: commitment to improve schools, empower parents, and oppose toxic curriculum in the classroom;
- JOB CREATION: support for small businesses and job creation against costly regulations and mandates, and
- FREEDOM: respect for our Constitutional rights and personal freedoms.
“It’s so important that we use this guide to help get good candidates past the ‘top two’ primary and into the general election run-off,” said DeMaio.
California elections are run by a “top two” primary system, in which the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, advance to the November general elections. This means that, theoretically, Republicans could get shut out of the November ballot and leave two Democrats for voters to choose from. This fate is likely if too many Republicans split the vote.
“I understand that everyone might have a preferred candidate and might not agree with all of these recommendations, but we need to unite behind a single candidate and not split the vote — otherwise we can get shut out of the general election,” said DeMaio.
“If we get shut out, we’ll be doomed under the same old Democrat politicians that want to raise taxes on our hardworking families, keep the status quo of our failing school systems, and let criminals loose in our neighborhoods,” explained DeMaio.

“Making it past the primary is step one — winning the seat is step two,” said DeMaio. “That’s why we’re working to win these races in the general election, but we can’t keep up the fight without your help,” he concluded.
