Carl DeMaio Responds to Gavin Newsom’s State of the State Speech

Governor Gavin Newsom scrambles to save California as well as his political career with his annual State of the State speech.

Carl DeMaio responded to the Governor’s speech by laying out a long list of Newsom’s failures and then asking a simple question, “Can Gavin Newsom save his career with this speech?”

This question is raised as the Recall campaign against Gavin Newsom reaches 2 million signatures. This is well above the 1.496 million needed to qualify a Recall election. The campaign to Recall Newsom came about because of his poor response and handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“He has to convince Californians that his handling of Covid-19 is defensible and that he did a good job,” said DeMaio. “There’s just no way you can come to a conclusion that he didn’t botch the job and fail his State,” he continued.

Newsom’s speech took place at Dodger Stadium, one of California’s vaccine super-station sites. “He has appropriately chosen an empty baseball stadium to address us tonight,” DeMaio stated.

“How a leader rises to the occasion is really a testament to their effectiveness as a leader. Newsom has failed this important test,” said DeMaio. “He is too arrogant and out of touch to see what a poor job he has done and how badly he has hurt Californians,” DeMaio continued.

Carl DeMaio laid out an ever-growing list of hypocrisies from Governor Newsom. “He believes there are two sets of rules. One for the elites like him, and then a whole set of rules to be enforced against you and me,” DeMaio continued.

Newsom does have time to try to reverse his political fortunes and resuscitate his political career. After the March 17th deadline for the Recall campaign to submit signatures, the Governor will have 30 days to collect his own signatures and get people to withdraw their names from the Recall petition.

“He has to convince Californians that his handling of Covid-19 is defensible and that he did a good job. There’s just no way you can come to a conclusion that he didn’t botch the job and fail his State,” DeMaio stated.
