‘Come at Me!’ - San Marcos Teacher Caught Berating Her Online Students

During an online distance learning class, a San Marcos, California high school teacher was caught on camera berating her students because parents were pushing to get their kids back to the classroom full-time and put an end to remote learning.

In a video that was recently shared on Facebook, San Marcos High School teacher Alissa Piro can be heard getting agitated at several of her senior class members during a virtual lesson over Zoom.

“If your parent wants to come talk to me about how I'm not doing a good enough job in distance learning based on what you need as an individual? Just dare them to come at me. Because I am so sick to my stomach of parents trying to tell educators how to do their job,” Piro stated on the video.

In the video, Piro appears to be extremely upset about returning to in person learning and seems to be referring to an ongoing lawsuit launched by parents against Governor Gavin Newsom as well as six North Country school districts seeking a return to physical classrooms full time.

Carl DeMaio points out that Piro’s views are rebutted by numerous national experts in a wide range of fields relating to child welfare. “The data and the science are all on the side of in-person instruction. Numerous national experts in child welfare and development have called for the immediate reopening of schools to benefit the academic growth and mental health of children - so Ms. Piro’s view is actually rejected by many experts in many professional fields dealing with children,” Carl DeMaio notes.

An additional video was shared to Facebook where you can see and hear Piro yelling at a student inquiring about a "White student union."

"You don't need a White student union, Jake! You get everything," exclaimed Piro.

DeMaio is demanding an immediate apology from this teacher or her termination for misconduct. “No teacher should be allowed to use her platform to berate and attack the parents of the students she is supposed to be teaching,” says DeMaio.

The video was reportedly filmed by a family member of a student in attendance of Piro’s online class. Additional reports state that a mother of a student in Piro's class brought the videos to the attention of San Marcos High School Principal, Adam Dawson several weeks ago. At the time, Dawson agreed that Piro's behavior was "inexcusable" and said that he would address it, but has failed to follow up on the matter.
