Campaign Seeks to Remove County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher from Office

Reform California launches campaign aiming to replace controversial San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher in November — says his policies are hurting working families and he has created a “hostile environment” in county government

In the upcoming 2022 local elections, controversial San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher is seeking re-election in District 4. Since joining the county board four years ago, critics say Fletcher has not only advocated for policies that have hurt working families in San Diego, but say Fletcher’s behavior has created a hostile environment within county government.

Now Reform California, one of the largest grassroots organizations in the state, has announced it is launching an effort to defeat Nathan Fletcher in the upcoming elections. The group is unveiling a website critical of Fletcher’s record of at www.DefeatNathanFletcher.com

“While he and his wife raked in nearly half-a-million in compensation at taxpayers’ expense, Nathan Fletcher has supported costly tax hikes and mandates on working families that have made it harder for them to make ends meet,” said Carl DeMaio, Chairman of Reform California.

“While Nathan Fletcher imposed draconian lockdowns and costly mandates on small businesses and caused middle-class workers to lose their jobs and income, Nathan Fletcher himself never once missed a taxpayer-funded paycheck — and in fact he profited personally on Covid-19 stock trades,” DeMaio noted.

In 2020 and 2021, Fletcher was a prominent advocate for lockdown policies to deal with Covid-19. Reform California contends his policies permanently shuttered hundreds of local businesses and left many more struggling. The group also points to Fletcher’s record supporting numerous regressive tax increases and utility rate hikes that have increased the cost-of-living for San Diegans.

For example, Nathan Fletcher supports the controversial San Diego Mileage Tax proposal. Under Fletcher's Mileage Tax proposal, every driver would be charged 4–6 cents per mile that they drive. This would cost the average driver $600 more per year — or $1200 more per year for the average two car family.

Reform California says Nathan Fletcher has supported policies that have contributed to a massive crime wave in our area. Since Fletcher took office, San Diego County has experienced a 21% increase in crime. In 2020 Fletcher backed proposals from the Defund the Police movement.

DeMaio is asking for San Diegans to join Reform California’s campaign to defeat Nathan Fletcher by sharing the website www.DefeatNathanFletcher.com

“Bottomline — Nathan Fletcher’s policies are hurting San Diego and he must be removed from office if we are to give relief to working families,” DeMaio concluded.
