Carl DeMaio Spearheads Signature Drive in San Diego to Stop Tax Hikes

Reform California is asking for volunteers to collect signatures to qualify two ballot initiatives for the statewide ballot in November 2022 to oppose costly tax hikes.

Californians already pay the highest taxes in the country — and Reform California Chairman Carl DeMaio is fighting to change that.

“Californians already pay the highest income tax, the highest sales tax, the highest gas tax, and some of the highest property taxes in the nation — and now politicians even want to impose a new Mileage Tax,” DeMaio warned. “It’s time to take action,” DeMaio says.

DeMaio, a long-time taxpayer watchdog, is supporting two statewide tax reform ballot measures he says will provide relief to struggling Californians.

The first initiative, the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act, will close loopholes, strengthen the requirement that local tax hikes must receive two-thirds voter approval to go into effect, and combat false and misleading ballot titles. The second, the Repeal the Death Tax Act, will preserve Prop 13 and allow parents and grandparents to transfer property to their children and grandchildren without triggering a huge property tax increase.

DeMaio is confident that both ballot measures can pass if they qualify for the November 2022 ballot. “Californians are sick and tired of the tax-and-spend policies of the liberal supermajority in Sacramento that are raising our cost-of-living,” said DeMaio. “Our polling shows that they would overwhelmingly vote in favor of these tax reform measures, but our biggest challenge is getting enough signatures to get these measures on the November 2022 ballot,” DeMaio said.

That’s why DeMaio and Reform California are hosting a signature drive throughout San Diego county to collect enough petitions before the deadline. DeMaio is dubbing the effort the “22 for ‘22” signature drive.

“We’re asking for everyone to sign up today to volunteer and collect just 22 signatures from your friends and neighbors to get these two initiatives on the 2022 ballot,” said DeMaio.

SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER TO COLLECT SIGNATURES

On March 15, DeMaio will have volunteers at locations throughout San Diego county where individuals can stop by to sign the ballot initiatives and pick up signature books to take home to get more signatures.

WHERE YOU CAN SIGN THE PETITION ON MARCH 15?

In addition to volunteering to collect signatures on the ballot measure petitions, DeMaio is urging all Californians to support Reform California’s overall campaign to stop tax hikes.

“We must take action now to make California more affordable for our working families — before they decide ‘enough is enough’ and flee our great state,” he concluded.
